I built the site I couldn’t find when I needed it.
When I started working remotely, I thought the hard part would be staying productive. It wasn’t. The hard part was figuring out what to actually buy. Every review I found was either three years out of date, plastered with affiliate links for whatever paid the highest commission, or written by someone who had clearly never used the product they were recommending.
I bought a headset that sounded great in a YouTube review and like a broken telephone in every meeting. I bought a standing desk that wobbled at any height above sitting. I spent money on a productivity app that I abandoned after two weeks because the review never mentioned the features that mattered.

So I started keeping detailed notes. Every piece of gear I bought, every tool I tried, every app I tested — I wrote down what worked, what didn’t, and what the marketing copy conveniently left out. Eventually those notes became this site.
WorkRemoteTools.org launched in early 2026 with a simple mandate: cover every category of remote work gear and software with the same standards a demanding colleague would expect. No fluff, no padding, no recommending products because they pay well. Just the information you need to build a home office and software stack that actually works.

Before touching a specific product, I understand what makes a good one — what specs matter, what’s marketing noise, and what real users consistently complain about.

Long-term owner reviews from verified purchasers surface problems that don’t appear in week-one testing. I weight these heavily.
State the weaknesses clearly
